Official Jeff Triplette had a lot of pent-up energy he needed to burn off in his first game back on a NFL field. Who knew that Packers linebacker Clay Matthews would be the victim?
Late in the 4th quarter of the Green Bay Packers 28-27 win over the New Orleans Saints, Darren Sproles fumbled a kickoff return that caused a heated pile-up for the ball. While the officials were trying to determine who had possession Triplette pushed Matthews away by his helmet than followed that up with a shove to his chest. Triplette even gave some head wagging to Matthews.
I would recommend that Triplette get a Discount Doublecheck on some health insurance.
The ball was eventually ruled down by contact (which was a terrible call).
I think a point is being missed here.
The refferees are the ultimate authority on the field. They have to be. So a coach grabbing a ref by the arm is a direct violation of authority.
The question should be what was Matthews doing that the ref had to shove him? And maybe he dodged a bullet by the shove as opposed to a fine.
Of all the referees who have worked NFL games this year, these guys were......er, um,....the most recent! Pitiful!
The "regular" referees were almost as bad as the replacements today in the Packer-Saints game. They totally blew an offensive pass interference call against the Saints that was almost as blatant as the one that was missed against Golden Tate in the Packers-Seahawks game last week. Truth was two other blown calls by the referees today agains the Packers made it almost impoosible to tell that these were the "regular" veteran referees. I though all change of possession turnovers were supposed to be reviewed "upstairs" yet clearly the Saints fumble was not and the head linesman simply declare the runner down by contact. the reply clearly showed that was not the case. What did the owners get for the new contract they signed? Same 'ole same 'ole controversy. Hey Footlocker, any of those guys in the striped shirts you loaned us still available?
regular refs are rusty and are missing as many calls as the replacement refs thus costing teams games or almost costing games. Even on challenges, the regular refs are missing calls. How can that be when you get to watch it over and over...?
100%. Look at Bill Belichick who was fined $50,000 for grabbing a refs' arm. I think there should definitely be a fine/suspension for Triplette. I think he went over the line.
