Tunisian Basketball Coach Slaps His Player In Pregame Huddle

By on August 1, 2012

Look, it ain’t easy being a 54 point underdog playing the Dream Team but I didn’t think the Tunisian coach would crack before the game even started.

In a pregame huddle before taking on the USA Men’s Basketball team, Tunisian head basketball coach Adel Tlatli slapped one of his players for apparently not paying attention.

At least his aggressive coaching style drives results, they only lost by 47.

You almost wonder what the point was, since they didn't have a prayer of winning.

Maybe if Scotty Brooks slapped some sense into Russell Westbrook, he wouldn't have blown Game 3 of the finals.. .http://www.ridethepine.com/sports/nba/russell-westbrook-game-3/

First of all, it's noteworthy that not one of his teammates was stirred by the slap — is it that such slaps are common? Or did the coach say something that made them see it coming? Or did the guy deserve it? If it was an American team, at the very least you'd have a few guys looking at each other like, "WTF?"

Secondly, just what IS the guy doing? Tying his shoelaces? The coach has a few minutes to talk with his players before the game — they better be listening! This is their once in a lifetime chance at the olympics, and they need to be awake and attentive. There is no excuse to be doing anything but listening to the coach. Would I slap the guy? Probably not. But, it might have been deserved.

Why would he go and slap the kid? It just isn't right. From what I saw it looked like he was just tying his shoes. The coach is just an ignorant person who needs to stop being such a DICK!!!!

I remember getting slapped by my coach right before a high school wrestling match. The coach felt I looked a little sleepy. It woke me up and I pinned my opponent in 23 seconds. Sometimes a little slap is not so bad.

I've watched it a few times now to make sure. People are actually thinking that qualifies as a slap? Anyone ever heard of a guy named Woody Hayes? All the weak knees watch the film, Patton and see what men do to motivate other men.

It is a sad day when one of the 1st responses is to sue the coach for slaping the player. Why not applaud the coach for requiring the player to pay attention? Oh yeah, this is the day of hands off discipline.

I wonder if the people who agree that the coach was justified to slap the player would feel the same if THEY were the one the coach slapped???

the kid straightened up very nicely, a slap shouldn't have been warranted, but it is the OLYMPICS, pay attention to the freaking coach when he is talking, maybe they wouldn't have lost by so much had the kid been paying attention the whole time.

It's called discipline; the coach was providing it. (Today, spoiled brats fail to live up to their potential because few parents are willing or able to dish it out when needed. The truest sign of a spoiled child: a parent that always sides with their child, instead of the coach or teacher or some other professional that is educated and trained in how to impart a skill or education to a child. A child that is effectively disciplined (physical force not necessary) will end up better for it).

This is not a child, its an adult. Even if it was a child, that NOT his child. He should be disciplined. He is rude

That coach has no excuse at all…if that was my son that got slapped..I would have walked up on the coach on the court and slapped him right back..who the hell does he think he is…I don't give a damn if he is under pressure..you don't slap anyone..and if I were that guy I would sue the hell out of the coach….we can't afford to have nasty, stupid, ignorant people on this earth like that coach

Who appointed you judge and jury for whom we can or can't afford to have on this earth? The tone of your remarks sounds just a little too 'nasty' for me. You would slap the coach for slapping? Really? Wouldn't slapping a slapper be both a "stupid and ignorant" response? Seems that YOU and the coach have much in common…

C'mon what ?. You have no idea all the info except your own righteousness. Cultural differences, previous experiences with the player, no sleep the night before, he needs the wakeup before the game….nothing. You reacted liked a puppet to the news media who put these things on their site to elicit responses like yours. You've been hooked. Now….are all Tunisians, Muslims etc like this ? I slap you !
