RIP Manute Bol, Lakers Raise Up, and MORE Ties

Welcome to Ride The Pine

Let’s talk sports…

Congratulations to the Los Angles Lakers for their victory and 16th NBA Championship over the Boston Celtics in a terrible and ugly Game 7 .  A victory that was called correctly here on Ride The Pine.  Facts are, the Celtics looked old and ran out of gas and Lakers are just a better team.  Celtics fans can you say rebuilding.  Rasheed Wallace will retire, Kevin Garnett is past his prime, Ray Allen is gone, Paul Pierce has peaked (past tense) and Doc Rivers is leaving.  Its alright, the Philadelphia Sixers would enjoy some company at the bottom of the East.  Underratedly, I became a big fan of Ron Artest.  He has become a lovable figure, crazy but entertaining.  Who would’ve thought after the brawl in the stands a couple years ago, that Ron Artest would be a world champion.  QB in the house, it just never as cool when I do it.

Hey check out this move by Jack Nicholson. Kevin Garnet went flying into Jack’s legendary seats, bloop.  Not a moment of panic, that dude is so cool.

Rest in Peace Manute Bol, the legendary 7 foot 6 inch NBA basketball player for the Bullets, Sixers, Warriors, and Heat died after battle with severe kidney troubles and a rare skin disease.  I once met Bol when I won a contest to be a ball boy at a Sixers game when I was like ten.  I literally never saw his face because he was that much taller than me. I do remember being eye-to-eye with his belt buckle, which even at that age felt a little uncomfortable.  Bol will always be a guy who I remember being a great humanitarian and giving up almost everything for his homeland of Sudan and shooting ridiculous three pointers way over his head.

Oh if you wanted a World Cup update the US ended up with another tie this time against Sloviana in the World Cup…shocking.

A couple of things to look out for while you’re on the pine.

  • Manny Ramirez will be featured in Sunday Night Baseball as the Dodgers finish up their series with the Boston Red Sox in Fenway
  • Tiger Woods had SEVEN birdies on Saturday to get to 4th place in the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach.

That’s my view from the pine…Los Angles Lakers raise up!
